3/30/2021

Hello Friends,

After a long and confusing year I’m so excited to announce the relaunch of TOWN Clothes, tomorrow 3/31/2021 at 10am PST.

Before the pandemic hit I knew I needed to do some soul searching and figure out what it was I wanted from this small business that I co-founded in 2014. With lockdown, I was forced to be with my thoughts, which was quite scary and confusing. I will be the first to admit that I was having a full blown existential crisis!

After many talks with those around me I thought I was ready to call it quits for sure. However, by late 2020 I rediscovered the passion and drive that had been missing. I started sewing again, making patterns and designing and realized this is what I love.

What I didn’t love was the “industry” of fashion.

If there is one positive thing we can take away from this year, it’s that for many, the pandemic has been a catalyst for change.

Although these changes aren’t happening throughout the entire industry, many homegrown, small, and independent designers, like myself are taking on the responsibility, making sacrifices and doing the work necessary to pioneer a new and imaginative way of bringing change to a tired and worn out industry.

I am inspired by the humanity in all of it but most of all, by the customers who are so willing to make this shift with us.

Whether you have committed to buying less and paying more, have become an expert at repairing holes or patching stains on your beloved pieces, or if you are exercising your patience and are able to wait for made-to-order items THANK YOU for all of it!

My business restructuring has taken me to exploring the made-to-order business model.

I’ve noticed throughout the years that I keep having to clear inventory to make room for new inventory and that I am forced into a vicious cycle of unsustainable practices just so I can do it again the following season.

This cycle needs to be broken in order to reduce waste, lower overhead costs (so I can lower prices), and lower my carbon footprint.

Moving forward, although there will be a turnaround time and a wait on your end, each piece will be made specifically for the buyer which, in my opinion makes the garment all the more special.

This will be a trial run and I will see if this model works for TOWN, but I’m hopeful it will and I’m so thankful for your support throughout these years and more specifically this crazy ass past year.

The first run will start tomorrow and I suggest placing your orders asap because I will be closing orders once I reach capacity, in order to keep the turnaround time on schedule.

Once I fulfill the first round of orders I will reopen orders, most likely in early July.

I expect orders to close on the Salima Patchwork Dresses and the Patchwork Market Blouses fairly quickly so if you have ANY questions please email me today and I will answer them as soon as I can. studio@town-clothes.com.

I have a lot of fun and exciting ideas for TOWN’s future and am excited to unveil those as the year progresses.

Please remember everything is now made-to-order, the turnaround time is 4-6 weeks from the TOWN Classics collection and the turnaround time for One-of-a-Kind pieces and Custom pieces is 6-8 weeks.

In terms of custom pieces: we are offering custom length options on the Quince Dresses. They come in both Oyster (Cream) and Onyx (Black). We are also offering a custom length option on the Salima Babydoll Dress which comes in Magnolia and Onyx linen.

IF there is a past TOWN fabric that you would like to have any of our styles in that is not listed on the website do not hesitate to reach out and ask. We may have that fabric still in stock and we might be able to accommodate your request! Please note we cannot add length to the One-of-a Kind pieces at this time.

One last thing, we are excited to offer Afterpay, which is basically a lay-away program for anyone that can’t pay for their entire piece upfront.

Thank you for reading all of this!

With gratitude and appreciation,

Krista Fox, Town Clothes
